Exercises and stretching : London Health
Exercises and stretches are some of the easiest ways of improving the health of the musculoskeletal system, but they are also some of the most effective. Stretching and performing specific exercises strengthens the muscles and tissues and improves the range of movement and flexibility around the joints.
What are the benefits?
The benefits of stretching regularly are plentiful; as well as building strength in the muscles, stretching also increases the range of movement around the joints and makes the connective tissue surrounding the bones and muscles more robust; this is important because it makes them more resistant to injury. Stretching also conditions the muscles, which can increase sporting performance and improve posture.
Is stretching painful?
Stretching should be extensive enough to feel slightly uncomfortable, but it should never be painful; the ‘no pain, no gain’ slogan should not be applied to chiropractic treatment. Stretching should be gentle and gradual; sharp movements could cause injury so patients should take care when stretching.
