A Guide to Sexually Transmitted Infections

Sexual health is extremely important because it can have repercussions for general health as well as consequences for your work and social life. Currently in the UK, sexually transmitted infections are on the rise, with the number of cases diagnosed rising each year; the number of cases amongst young people aged between 16 and 24 is particularly high. The UK also has the highest rate of teenage pregnancy in Europe. In order to combat these problems, it is important that people realise the importance of having protected sex and get tested for sexually transmitted infections regularly. Many people assume that they are protected against sexually transmitted infections if they use contraceptive methods; however, condoms are the only form of contraceptive that protects against STIs as well as unwanted pregnancies.
