Manual manipulation : London Health
Manual manipulation involves a sudden, forceful movement of a joint in order to increase flexibility and movement in that joint. The action is carried out by the chiropractor and does not involve any other devices or medication.
When is manual manipulation used?
Manual manipulation is usually used to treat subluxated vertebrae; this term refers to a number of different conditions caused by the poor alignment or positioning of the vertebrae in the back. Manipulation can also be used on the shoulders, hips and legs.
How does manual manipulation work?
Manual manipulation is used to improve the position of the vertebrae and the alignment of the spinal column. Chiropractors are highly trained; this is important because the spinal column is extremely fragile and damage to it can have devastating effects. There are several different methods of manual manipulation; some are fairly gentle, while others are much more forceful.
