Solvents are usually household items such as glue, cleaning fluids, paints and hairspray; they give off fumes that can make people feel giggly and woozy. Solvents are inhaled; they can be very addictive because they are widely available and comparatively very cheap; it is also much easier to hide a solvent addiction because the items containing solvents are ordinary household products.
Effects of solvent abuse
Solvent abuse can cause nausea, vomiting and complications relating to heart rate and blood pressure. Prolonged use of solvents also causes significant damage to the liver, brain and kidneys.
