Drug users are often very secretive so it can be difficult to identify a growing addiction; however, there are some signs to look out for:
Physical signs:
- Bloodshot, red eyes
- Dilated pupils
- Swollen eyes
- Sudden changes in body weight
- Sudden changes in appetite
- Lack of coordination and slurred speech
- Blurred vision and trouble reading
Psychological signs:
- Mood swings
- Paranoia
- Anxiety
- Drowsiness and confusion
- Appearing distant or ‘out of it’
- Becoming irritable and restless
- Periods of hyperactivity
Behavioural signs:
- Changes in routine
- Becoming distant and reluctant to stay in social situations
- Becoming secretive
- Change of friends
- Poor performance at work, college or school
