Transient ischaemic attack (TIA) : London Health
A transient ischaemic attack is commonly known as a ‘mini stroke’. The symptoms are similar to those associated with a stroke but they often come on suddenly and then subside; it is extremely important to seek medical help if you experience a mini stroke as 1 in 5 people that have one go on to have a full stroke within 4 weeks of the TIA. There are several groups of people that are at higher risk of having a stroke following a TIA; these people include:
- People aged over 60
- People with diabetes
- People with hypertension (high blood pressure)
- People that had prolonged symptoms of a TIA
