Sleeping well

There are a few simple steps that you can take to help you sleep better; these include:

  • Try to relax during the evening, as this will allow your body to wind down before bed
  • Avoid eating a heavy meal before bed (take special care to avoid foods that are high in artificial colours, sweeteners and sugars )
  • Make your bedroom comfortable by ensuring you have a comfortable med and pillows and the room is at a nice temperature
  • Have a bath before bed; the natural drop in temperature you experience when getting out of the bath is thought to mirror the natural drop in temperature from afternoon to night and makes the body prepare for sleep
  • Exercise during the day rather than during the evening or at night
  • Losing weight: if you are overweight you are more likely to
  • Cover up your windows to make sure your room is dark; this will help you to sleep better
  • Avoid stressful situations
  • Avoid caffeine, sugar and alcohol late at night as these will keep you awake
  • Try to rest your mind late at night
  • Try to get into a routine of going to bed and getting up at a certain time; this will prepare your body for winding down in the evening and getting up in the morning
