Cancer of the womb (cancer of the uterus) : London Health
This form of cancer is also known as endometrial cancer; it is most common in women over the age of 60 that have been through the menopause.
Risk factors
The exact cause of endometrial cancer is unknown but there are some risk factors which are associated with this form of cancer; these include:
- Age: women over the age of 60 are more at risk of developing this form of cancer
- Obesity
- Diabetes
- Children: women that haven’t had children have a higher risk of getting womb cancer
- PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome): women with this condition are slightly more at risk of developing womb cancer
Symptoms
Common symptoms include abnormal bleeding; this may be light but will usually get heavier as the cancer advances. Other symptoms include abnormal weight loss and pain in the abdomen and lower back (these are usually symptomatic of advanced womb cancer).
